This study examines the evolution of trade in goods between these regions and evaluates its implications for economic development in SSA. Using a mixed-method approach that combines quantitative trade data analysis and qualitative policy review, the research identifies key trends in exports, imports, and sectoral linkages. The findings indicate that while Middle Eastern countries have become important trade partners for SSA—especially in energy, construction materials, and manufactured goods—the benefits for African economic development remain uneven. Structural constraints such as dependency on primary exports, weak industrial capacity, and limited regional integration hinder optimal gains. The study concludes with policy recommendations aimed at strengthening trade diversification, improving value addition, and enhancing institutional frameworks for sustainable development.
